A good mental and physical health can improve the quality of one's life during the older years. If you have some good genes and healthy habit, with a bit of luck then you can live to a ripe old age. Keep Your Endurance Going

As you grow older, your blood vessels also become a little less resilient, which often leads to high blood pressure and some other issues that may compromise your endurance. According to studies, performing at least 30 minutes of moderate intensity activities like swimming, biking and walking on most of the days of the week, older adults can slow and prevent declines in cardiovascular capacity.


Move and Strengthen Your Body

Experts recommend those people who are 65 older and healthy should perform a 150 minutes of cardio a week. For example, you can do a 30 minute cardio workout in five days a week. If it is more convenient on your part, then you can split this up into three – ten minute workouts throughout the day. It depends on your availability. The exercise intensity must be high enough so that you cannot sing along with your favorite tune, yet can still talk. Other exercises that you can do includes biking, walking, swimming and dancing. Your every day activities like gardening, cleaning the house and playing with grandchildren can also be a part of your active lifestyle.


Exercise Your Brain

In addition to keeping your body strong and healthy, you must also keep your brain in tip-top shape. As you grow old, it may take longer to remember some things that it did when you were younger. By challenging and exercising your brain, you can prevent cognitive decline and memory problems and stay sharp. Playing word games and crossword puzzles can help, as can learning a new skill and switching some daily tasks. You can also do some computer tasks, taking a different route when buying at a grocery store, experimenting with different recipes when you cook, or brush your teeth with a non-dominant hand.

Maintaining your independence usually becomes more of a challenge as we age, especially if you bear the burden of chronic diseases like arthritis and osteoporosis that will limit your movement patterns. Consult your doctor before doing a new exercise routine to make sure that your planned regimen is safe for your physical condition.
